Easypeasy Linux : HOW To Add A Canon Printer.

A Linux newbie here. I just installed easypeasy in my Acer A1 a0150 ZG5. I am at the end of my wits on how to install a printer after reading online trying to find a way. It's a cannon MP160. I am a windows user and after many years of watching linux like a scared fish I jumped into it. So everything about linux is new to me. I don't even know what I am doing, what I should do or how to do it.

When I open system/printing/ the new or add button is not active. What do i do?

    Hello and Welcome.
First thing you should do is make sure you already have CUPS installed, if not, install it before you go further.

EP is built on Debian and Ubuntu so a HOWTO for either should suffice in your case.

    Thanx for a quick reply.

I have read on that link and I cannot see what I need to do. I did not see my MP160 printer. I clicked on one of the printers there and this is what came up

    1. Connect your printer, and start Ubuntu.

    2. Install the needed packages: alien, libpng12-0, libpng12-dev, libgtk1.2 and libgtk1.2-common with Synaptic or type:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install alien libpng12-0 libpng12-dev libgtk1.2 libgtk1.2-common
How do you install anything in ubuntu? what is sudo ... where do i type it? Is this the process to install a printer?
Sorry guys like i said i have no idea where to start chewing ubunti. Want to learn tho'.

    Hello there!

You should be able to find the terminal in your Accessories menu. Open that, then type:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update <enter>
    <Enter your password>
    sudo apt-get install alien libpng12-0 libpng12-dev libgtk1.2 libgtk1.2-common
You won't see anything appear on screen as you type your password. That is a security feature.
Let us know how it goes.
    Jay

Ok found it. But before typing in those commands. I just checked at Cannon for my MP160 driver and it's not available. Is there a generic driver for cannon printers or is my printing with easypeasy linux not possible on this cannon?

There are probably drivers that will work but you'll have to test them after you get everything installed correctly.
