    Question on loopback address

    Hello All,

    I have a weird problem with the loopback addresses here in Ubuntu. I have a n external module which spawns 2 processes, the first process binds on 127.0.0.1:5038 and the second process binds on 127.0.0.2:5038 and in the log, i see that second process is not starting up because of a bind error.

    Please tell me, do i need to modify my network configuration to get it working.
    Is it practically possible to bind on two loopbacks addresses 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.2 with same port.

    Thanks a lot for your replies in advance.

    Regards,

    hey there
    you see my thingy has only one loopback interface

    ifconfig
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:b9:6d:a4:47
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
    Interrupt:17

    lo Link encap:Local Loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
    inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:17272 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:17272 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:2148312 (2.1 MB) TX bytes:2148312 (2.1 MB)

    wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:d2:4e:59:e9
    inet addr:192.168.1.9 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
    inet6 addr: fe80::219:d2ff:fe4e:59e9/64 Scope:Link
    UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:7082932 errors:0 dropped:10 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:9130882 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:2042412808 (2.0 GB) TX bytes:3691296727 (3.6 GB)

    just check how many do you have, rather check if you have configured a second loopback
