Is my Ubuntu experince doomed? No sound card driver?

Installed Ubunto in 64 bit. Everything working except sound. My sound card is a Focusrite Liquid channel 56 saffire mix control. There is no dowload available on the focusrite site.

Is that it then. Is this the end? Or is there some form of universal driver?

    Many thanks

    Hello and welcome aboard!

It might work according to the article found here:

    may work via FFADO drivers
Click on the FFADO within the article to go to that website and check the drivers.

Thank you. I went to the FFADO site and dowloaded 2.10. The text read

    "This is a source-only release: libffado-2.1.0.tgz."

Something downloaded somewhere. I opened the file(s) but I have no idea what to do with it. I am used to a set up file and clicking through it.

I have no knowledge of linux at all and I dont know any linux terms but I can use windows well.

How do you install this driver please?

The first place to look for proprietary drivers in Ubuntu is the hardware drivers application which is normally somewhere under system. If there is nothing there then have a look in the Ubuntu Software center. You should look for a package containing "libffado". If there is nothing in there, then you will need to build it from source.

Now what was it isn't it, and what is it is weird and scary to me.
    It'll happen to you too."

For instructions on installing software from source, check post #2 in the following HowTo:

Also, be sure to check the unpacked tarball for any special instructions for compiling and installing your package.
