    '?' in permissions description in ls


    I have a folder "/home/<me>/Images/Camera". I just copied a ton of photos over to that directory, and when I tried to look at the directory, I got a bunch of:

    and:

    ls: cannot access Images/Camera/IMG407.jpg: Permission denied
    ls: cannot access Images/Camera/IMG281.jpg: Permission denied
    ls: cannot access Images/Camera/video-2012-06-21-13-38-55.mp4: Permission denied
    total 0
    The usb stick I copied from was vfat, "W95 FAT32 (LBA)" is what fdisk says. Is this a file system sorta problem?

    Hello and welcome!

    What is the filesystem of that dir? e.g.:

    Code:
    df -T /home/<you>/Images/Camera
    can you chmod/chown them? e.g.:

    chown -R <your_id>:<your_group> /home/<you>/Images/Camera
    Code:
    find /home/<you>/Images/Camera/ -type f -exec chmod 0644 {} \;
