    Exclamation Hard drive not working on Ubuntu OR windows

    MY hard drive isn't working. It's an External. I went in and tried to open it again and didn't come up.
    I tried to open it in my Windows and it showed it self like it did in "Computer" on my Ubuntu;
    Both acted like the hard drive needed to be reformatted. It was working perfectly then it stopped...
    Heres the screen-cap of the error that it gives me when I try to access the Volume.

    Hi and welcome

    The Input/Output error is typicall for a broken disk.
    The electronic of that external case could also be faulty.
    So to be sure, connect the disk via a different external case.

    If the error persists, then there is harder prove of a broken disk.
    In this case: *Maybe* some of the data can be restored via TestDisk
    You must always face the curtain with a bow.

    Plug it in Linux and execute this
    Code:
    tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages
    Does above command throw any output? Post it here.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    In Ubuntu, press Alt+F2 and type terminal. Terminal window will pop up. Type tail command there.
    Or Search for Terminal in Menu.
