    Brother MFC7460DN won't scan


    Using Ubuntu 12.04.1

    Just purchased a Brother MFC7460DN fax-scan-copy machine
    All functions have been working (install went fine)
    The scan function works with xsane but will not scan on its own.
    Message was "check connection"
    Machine is plugged in and am able to ping it on the network.

    any help appreciated

    The scan function works with xsane but will not scan on its own.
    To scan from Ubuntu you would use xsane. If it doesn't work when you hit a scan button on the printer, that is something you would need to address with Brother. Maybe I'm not understanding your problem ??

    Did you get a manual with the printer? Was that any help or, if you didn't get a manual, you might be able to find one on-line?

    Two manuals came with the device.
    In fact, I dnloaded them so it is easy to read
    Strange than the device scanner is almost void of good information
