Most HD audio cards (including ones built into the motherboard) work with Linux. Obviously, if the manufacturer has linux-specific drivers, that's a good indication that it will work for you, otherwise you may need to configure your kernel to work with the specific chip set in question. BTW, what dac/board did you have? I would guess it is supported, but you didn't configure the audio system properly to use it.

ya i figured that i would have to make changes for the chipset but im a newbie so i was looking for somthing a little simpler being i am going to make my first atemt installing a pci card on any competer since win 98 my dac was a xfi hd soundblaster it was not good in windows it would have driver trouble so when i migrated to linux i checked around and it wasnt supported i pluged it in and at first it saw the i/o jacks but not optical i/o so that kinda sucked so i rebooted it and then it didnt see it at all

We try! This is one of the more supportive forums that I have found, which is why I try to contribute.
