How do I improve my FPS?

I've been having really big issues with NVIDIA since I have switched to Ubuntu. If I don't have NVIDIA, my Minecraft FPS is a pile of poo. I've tried for hours to install NVIDIA with no luck. What are some alternatives?

    Hello and Welcome.
Have you tried removing the default driver first? See this link for a rundown.

When I ran the commands to un-install them it said I never even had them?
Also, Minecraft won't start because GLX won't start.
EDIT: I Have NO additonal drivers. Strange.

How are you installing the nvidia drivers?

If I remember correctly, they should be available in the software centre. Also, if this is a laptop with Optimus then you will need Bumblebee.
    What do we want?
    Time machines!

    When do we want 'em?
    Doesn't really matter does it!?

What's the make / model of your rig and what release / flavor of Ubuntu are you trying to run on it?
