    Question Ubuntu 12.04 full disc encryption and data journaling

    Hi,

    I just started to meddle with Linux a week ago and been reading a whole lot, but some questions still haven't been answered. One in particular ist journaling on a fully encrypted system.

    As I understand it, if you fully encrypt your system, it will be mounted without journaling, unless you modify your grub file
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="kopt=root=/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root"
    Question is...what are the advantages and/or disadvantages in doing so? Is journaling with an encrypted system a big NONO?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Interesting monika!

    Basically, journaling file systems enable recovery of the filesystem in the event of a system crash. I don't have any specific knowledge of how this is affected if the filesystem is being encrypted though. My initial thought would be !why does it matter?" but...

    Cheers - VP
