Failed installing easy_install all day. Why isn't it working?

    Hello there,

I want to install Pygments. To do this, the pygments website tells me I must install easy_install.

I do exactly like the easy_install website tells me (https://pypi.python.org/pypi/setupto...ing-mac-os-x):

    Code:
    sudo wget https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/raw/bootstrap/ez_setup.py -O - | python
In which case I got permission error. I chmoded the directory to 777, and tried again. this time the install went further but failed:

    Code:
    ...
    copying setuptools.egg-info/zip-safe -> build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/EGG-INFO
    creating dist
creating 'dist/setuptools-1.1.5-py2.7.egg' and adding 'build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg' to it
removing 'build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg' (and everything under it)
    Processing setuptools-1.1.5-py2.7.egg
    Copying setuptools-1.1.5-py2.7.egg to /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages
Adding setuptools 1.1.5 to easy-install.pth file
    Installing easy_install script to /usr/local/bin
    error: /usr/local/bin/easy_install: Permission denied
Something went wrong during the installation.
    See the error message above.
No way of knowing what went wrong.

So I tried the alternative method on the easy_install website:

    Code:
    wget https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/raw/bootstrap/ez_setup.py
    python ez_setup.py --user
In which case i cannot use the easy_install command in the terminal:

    Code:
    easy_install: command not found
How do you suggest I proceed?

    Thank you for your time.

    Kind regards,
    Marius

It looks like you need to run the python command as the superuser instead of the wget so try

    Code:
    wget https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/raw/bootstrap/ez_setup.py -O - | sudo python

That helped. I think easy_install is installed, but I am not sure:

    Code:
    ~$ sudo easy_install Pygments
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/local/bin/easy_install", line 9, in <module>
        load_entry_point('setuptools==1.1.5', 'console_scripts', 'easy_install')()
      File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/pkg_resources.py", line 357, in load_entry_point
"""Yield named metadata resource as list of non-blank non-comment lines
      File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/pkg_resources.py", line 2393, in load_entry_point
        issue_warning("Unbuilt egg for "+repr(self))
ImportError: Entry point ('console_scripts', 'easy_install') not found
    What do you think?

    Thank you for your time.

    Kind regards,
    Marius

Have a look at this. Specifically the first answer
"I used to be with it, then they changed what it was.
Now what was it isn't it, and what is it is weird and scary to me.
    It'll happen to you too."
