    Need help with software.

New to linux - thought I was computer savy before but now dumb.
I got linux working everything here appears to be working fine (exept I have to keep reconnecting to wifi) and have tried many things that I have read in differant threads.

To the Point - we have a financial software package that we have use for many years. The CD comes with mac, windows and linux but I cannot get it to install. I have tried via the terminal every which way I can manipulate using instruction from the chatrooms here and others.
I'm sure it's possible but I need a little help.
    Thank you.

You forgot to name the 'software' you are using so that someone familiar with it would be able to help.
You also have neglected to indicate exactly what you have tried and what the results were. Generally there will be some type of error/warning message. If not, at least give the software or indicate what you have done.

THe software is Crown Money Map.
    I tried sudo dpkg -i CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb
    dpkg: error processing CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb

as well as adding the extension .sh from the pkg, and even left the .sh and . deb off but got the same results.
    sudo dpkg -i CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh.deb
    dpkg: error processing CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh.deb

Are you using the full path to the deb file? i.e sudo dpkg -i /cdrom/path/on/cd/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb

The error you reported would indicate you are either not in the directory where the file is or did not use the full path as indicated above. Ubuntu usually auto-mounts a CD under the /media directory so you could change to that directory and try. If you are using the most recent Ubuntu release, you might try right-clicking on the file and selecting to open with the Software Center.

    Tried :
sudo dpkg -i /media/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.debdpkg: error processing /media/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    /media/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb

also tried adding the name of the CD as it shows in the file manager.
sudo dpkg -i /media/CMMFA_2.0.0.25/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.debdpkg: error processing /media/CMMFA_2.0.0.25/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    /media/CMMFA_2.0.0.25/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.deb

Tried these varieations with the .sh.deb and .sh/.deb as the program as a .sh

I right clicked on the program and told it to open with the software center and got the following error
The file “/media/CMMFA_2.0.0.25/CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh” could not be opened.
Could it be that it is a 2006-2007 release and has the .SH?

Have you tried to cd into the exact path of the program to be installed?
    Code:
    cd media/program/something
Then attempt the commands suggested above?

If I try it with the .sh the CD runs but I get the following but if only use the .deb I get the usual.
Here I set the path and then sudo dpkg -i CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh

    /media/CMMFA_2.0.0.25$ sudo dpkg -i CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh
dpkg-deb: error: `CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh' is not a debian format archive
    dpkg: error processing CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh (--install):
subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    CMMFS_linux_2_0_0_25.sh

I have installed a program using the ubuntu software center but I cannot run it from my CD. but the CD plays music and I can copy files from it and everything else.
