    virtualbox vs vmware on ubuntu vs windows

    A conversion of a .vdmk to .ovf (through vsphere) is able to be imported onto a virtualbox install on a windows 7 box; however the converted image can't be installed through virtualbox on a ubuntu machine.

    Error is: Failed (blah blah blah) Could not find a storage controller named 'SCSI Controller'

    Result Code: VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND (0x090BB0001)
    Component: Appliance
    Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}

    If anyone has run into this before and knows a solution, please let me know?

    I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, in Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.
    I you haven't, you probably will want to post this on the VirtualBox user forums.

    I haven't done it in a while but the solution is simple: You have to hack the XML file for the VM and tell it to mount the drive as an IDE instead of an SCSI. It took me a few googles but I found the how to on a guys blog about a year back.
