    can't upgrade to ubuntu 16.04

I used the terminal to upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 but was told there is no upgrade. I'm using a dell latitude E6400 has a dual core processor 4 gig ram. Used the following commands

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
    lsb_release-a
    uname-a
    sudo-release-upgrade-d

    Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help.

please have a look at this page.
are you sure your 14.04 is not EOL yet?
and have you looked at ubuntu's pages for a tutorial on upgrading the distro release?

    those aren't even real commands:

and please use code tags for posting code, and always also show the output of a command, paraphrasing is useless.

let me lay out the steps for you:

    1. formulate a search query
    2. look at the results
    3. click on the one that looks most promising/relevant
    4. do things
