I can't change anything
whenever I try to get into anything that requires a password I get errors like "Su returned with an error" or "Conversation with su failed." Whenever I use sudo in a terminal and enter my user password I only get another blank command prompt. If I type su and my root password I can get into root user mode in the terminal only. I can't even get into administrator mode in any system settings.
I'm running kubuntu 5.10, I think. Also, I'm new to linux and this is the first distro I've used.

Cool, have fun with Ubuntu. I know I did!
Ubuntu has great documentation (wiki.ubuntu.com/UserDocumentation), and the Ubuntu forum (www.ubuntuforums.org) is full of good HOW-TOs"To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."
