It appears that you have Nvidia geforce is this correct? If so youll need to install some nvidia drivers since the system doesnt come with support for Nvidia chipsets

Do you actually get an error message, or it the "error" you're referring to just booting into text mode?

If it's just text mode, log in, and type
    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
If it's an error message, post the message here.

for ease of use you could go to http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/ which can ease your way through installing Nvidia drivers and other handy codecs etc
