    Mozilla Connection Problem.

    Hey all!

    Im still a newbie, but getting into it a fair bit now.. and loving it!

    Im running into an annoying problem with mozilla. Having just upgraded to adsl2+ i thought...woohhooo i can piss off my winblows os... but no.

    The system;
    Im running Ubuntu 5.10,
    Im setup with a ADSL router/modem with wireless.
    Using dhcp
    Atempting to use the latest firefox (1.5.2 i think??).

    The problem...

    Mozilla can not connect to the net.
    Meanwhile...i can ping my router, i can ping google.com, i can get into my router via mozilla browser; where it says the router has a stable internet connection. And i am running the same-ish setup on two pcs'.

    This elimination leads me to believe its a browser problem.

    Winblows does not get the same problem ( but obviosly gets its own problems being windows!! ).

    Ive done a search on here, found a few things but they seemed to be irrelevant to my distro.

    Ive tried many proxy options etc...

    But just to note...i had the exact same browser setups' working fine with my old dial up connection.

    appologies for the long post, but this problem is running me around in circles!

    Any help appriciated, thanks for reading.

    Jon

    The only thing that comes to mind is in your Firefox Preferences-> General-> Connection Settings, make sure Direct Connection is selected.

    For the record, do other browsers (Konqueror, Galeon, Lynx, etc.) also have this problem? Also, exactly what error does Firefox throw at you when you open it?

    Have you tried setting the IP address to static and giving the router as a gateway?
    System>Administration>Networking and set it up from there
    free/libre/open software for the people by the people

    Yeah i tried doing the static IP approach. Didnt work....
    However... Because im a total goose;

    I thought i'd delete some host list in "networking" menu (replacing it with the router IP), and whoa was that a mistake! messed up a whole lot of stuff, so bad that networking wouldnt even open so i could change settings back to normal.

    so i reinstalled ubuntu.... over my windows partition by mistake!!!! ( what a loooooser), wasnt thinking that night + was sick.

    So consequently i lost everything in both OSs'. One day when i can be f***ked ill re-install ubuntu and get back to u guys again with my progress.

    When i reinstall ill try a few diff browsers.

    Cheers for your help dudes!

    Hey all!

    Im back. I now have installed Ubuntu 6.06... Not bad i must say.

    Still having dramas with the Mozilla connection....

    However now im a little more confused;
    In terminal i can ping my router and google.com, so my dns and connection must be working ok...

    But pages wtill wont load in mozilla- i get a msg " cant find server at ... ",
    Gaim will not connect.

    Ive tried going through the application menu and then into Add programs - to try and get a different browser- but that doesnt see my wireless connection either.

    Is their a APTGET function i can use from terminal in Ubuntu? I'd like to try epiphany or konqueror and see if i have better luck.

    Any help appriciated,
    Cheers,
    Jon

    Hey I had the same problem with kubuntu, all set up and running, Konqueror to browse but FireFox wouldn't work ... I've read it is about supporing IPv6 by default on ubuntu. So, you can configure firefox to use it :P and your problems will be solved Here is the link : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/We...ngSlowIPv6IPv4
    Have fun, it worked great for me Cheers
