    X login problem

I've just installed ubuntu and kubuntu 6 on this PC, and I've had the same problems under Ubuntu as well as Kubuntu, and i have no idea what it's comming form, hopefully someone else here can help.

When i boot up, and choose to launch *buntu, and when X loads, and i see the log on screen, and when i type in my name and password, the GUI loads up 1/2 way, then it goes back to the log on screen! no error report or anything.

the only way i can get into Ubuntu is by booting up in recovery mode, and then X only works 1/2 of the time! :o

I first thought that this was an installation error, so i reinstalled. but that did not solve the problem. :-/

does anyone have an idea about the problem?

Post the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/kdm.log.
