    some internet sites not accessible

I am not sure why, but for some reason http sites are not accessible in firefox (or any other web browser for that matter)... Synaptic runs fine and updates as required, wiki.ubuntu.com opens fine and https sites seem to work, but other http sites do not open... I am connecting through an ADSL 2+ router, I am running 6.06 on my IBM laptop. Help please.
