    Upgrading Ubuntu 6

Yesterday i installed Ubuntu 6 and it was so COOOL. the brown theme, the way it boots and the speed .... all are absolutely fantastic. i congratulate the Ubuntu team for their achievement and for giving us one of the most attractive and user-friendly linux's of all times.

As i am new in Unbuntu, i would appreciate for some help to use it as a full distribution (compiling software, video codecs etc etc).

I have the debian sarge cd's with me, can i use them to update ubuntu or i have to use the internet repository? i have copied the win32 dll files into /usr/lib/win32, but totem cannot seem to recognize these libs and cannot play divx, mpeg3/4, wmf, avi movies.

can anyone give a clue in this regard? if i download the dvd-iso will it meet the requirement?

I posted this to the site:

"One very easy thing to do is update to the really most current version by going to System>Administration>Update manager. It will ask for your administrator password, and then give you a screen called "Software Update". If you click on the "check" button, it will check for updates for you, and apparently download and install them for you automatically.

Your system should be secure administratively as long as you are the one with the password. I don't know how to change the default administrator username, but I don't see why I have to.

As for the rest, I'm right behind you checking the suggested sites."

    Those sites are:

and the whole thread is at:

This thread seems to be asking the same thing you're asking.

The easyubuntu site is especially helpful. It all seems to be there.

There are themes and so forth at .
