New to Linux
Have just received my Ubuntu diskand installed it. However, I cannot install my Brother HL1430 printer. I have the installation disk, and although I can open this in Ubuntu it will not run any of the files. The same goes for my Zoom modem. I know that Linux is not as easy as the Microsoft rip-off but would appreciate some detailed guidance. My PC useage is very simple - about ten (10) addresses on the web I visit daily, some simple word processing and a few databases, and, lastly sending emails. I would really like to be able to ditch Windows and just use Linux. So, please, can somebody help a senior citizen who is computer literate, but not Linux, yet?
Many thanks in advance. Drawstop.

Welcome to linux world
You dont need drivers for your printer because linux has alredy drivers for your type of printer.go to system>administration>Printing and double click on "new printer".that will open printer wizard.first select "local printer" and than your type.that will install your drivers.
About modem ....is a dial-up modem?

Yeah, that printer works perfectly with Linux according to LinuxPrinting.org:
You can download a driver for it there too, if it's needed.oz
