    Sound Problems

Bit of an annoying problem (though what problem ISN'T annoying?). My sound is, well... wonky. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sounds crystal clear, sometimes it sounds like my speakers are gargling cement. I'm not entirely sure how to work the mixers (or how to install drivers, for that matter), so that doesn't really help.

My soundcard is a Sounblaster Live! 24-bit, if I remember correctly. In KMix, my two mixer options are CA0106 (the built-in motherboard soundcard?) and VIA 82C686A/B rev20.

I've tried a bunch of settings using two different sets of speakers. I have no idea what the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try this, go to your sound configuration change the driver to alsa advanced Linux sound architecture
and then restart the sound daemon

Went to system settings, clicked Sound and Multimedia, clicked the Hardware tab, changed the "select the audio device" from Default to "Advanced Linux Sound Architecture"... resarted the daemon... still no sound.

I don't see the soundcore module, Try adding soundcore to /etc/modules
just edit the file and type in soundcore and restart the system. if this dose not work try moving the card to another slot. I have had this work in the past.

Odd. Moving the soundcard had no effect, yet when I restarted the computer, I had sound when I used the motherboard SC. Turned on the computer this morning, and I have no sound in either.

Sorry you are having so much trouble. May I suggest using a different sound card.
