Model Trains Digital Control for Linux

I am new to Linux but am using the Ubuntu package. I want to install the program: DDL - Digital Direct for Linux - seems there are special packages available for Fedora and Redhat but not for Ubuntu. There are instructions on the DDL web site but I can't understand them - even when they're translated into English. Would any Ubuntu expert out there be able to help me?
It seems this is not only the best digital controller etc for model trains but also FREE!

Try converting the package with alien.
    [CODE]
    apt-get install alien
    alien thepackage.rpm
    dpkg -i thepackage.deb
    [CODE]

Or you can use Synaptic, maybe there's an available .deb for from there

    Smile Alien

Thanks for the help Juan Pablo but I do not understand - I'm a real novice and old as well!!! It seems I should be finding a command line somewhere as in DOS to install new programs or something? Is anyone willing to lead me through this process? If so feel free to contact me on Skype - user name is barkerjon. It would be good if you were a Marklin user/collector too.

you can convert Fedora's rpm packages into Ubuntu's .deb format. for this, you need to install 'alien'.
in Synaptic Package Manager, search for 'alien'. install it.
in terminal/konsole, use alien to convert rpm file.

    alien <rpm package name>

you will get .deb package. now install this package using dpkg.
if find anything confusing, check manuals....

    man <command>
    man dpkg

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
