Trying to compile kernel-source and make dep not working!!!

    I keep getting this message:

    gcc-3.3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -o scripts/mkdep scripts/mkdep.c
    make: gcc-3.3: Command not found
    make: *** [scripts/mkdep] Error 127

when i am trying to install the kernel-source file. I have installed it /usr/src directory and have typed in make oldconfig which worked fine.

Now when I try and proceed any further it just keeps giving me that message!!!

I have installed the kernel headers and the essential build parts such as GCC etc.

    the version is kernel-source-2.4.27

Any help would be greatly appreciated
