Why not just install the package?
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install rdesktop tsclient
Quick and easy, guaranteed to work.

BTW, the tsclient package is a nice front-end for rdesktop and vnc. It supports most of rdesktop's features, but if you want to have your local filesystem accessible on the remote connection, you'll still need to set up the connection on the command line.
