you must be 'root' to execute 'make install'.
    Code:
    sudo make install

'root' login is disabled in Ubuntu. How did you log in as root?
you can gain root privileges in terminal/konsole through 'sudo'.

okkk ! check if 'make' is installed or not
    Code:
    which make
in case, it doesn't show any output, install it.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get build-essential

How do you get root privledges in the graphics mode of ubuntu ? would love to know that. YOu do have 'sudo' for terminal but i don't know how to do it in graphical mode?
