Which version of Ubuntu are you using ? For Edgy, just do :
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g
and you are all set (given you have the "universe" repository enabled).

If you need more details, I made a small tutorial here (instructions for Ubuntu as well) :

Then I guess you could use packages from Edgy.

    First install "fuse" :
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install fuse-utils libfuse2
Then download ntfs-3g packages from Edgy :
    Code:
    wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/n/ntfs-3g/libntfs-3g0_20060920-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
    wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/n/ntfs-3g/ntfs-3g_20060920-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
    Then install them :
    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i libntfs-3g0_20060920-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
    sudo dpkg -i ntfs-3g_20060920-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
Then finally you can mount your partition as per the instructions posted on link I gave you.

That's because the Dapper use the old NTFS driver by default, but NTFS-3G gives you both read and write capabilities :
