    Ubuntu/Kubuntu & server

    Any help would be appreciated...

Have decided on Kubuntu, but could not find Server option, so setup Ubuntu server on a typical home network system with fixed IP address on my broadband setup.

As I am a nerd for all things Linux, & need to use a desktop GUI or give up.

I could not find an arrangement for Kubuntu, so tried Ubuntu. However, the Ubuntu server system I downloaded and successfully ran up does not provide me with enough information to get a Desktop GUI interface to talk to things. Don't even know what or how to load from Ubuntu command line.

If you think there is any hope for me and that I should battle on, I would appreciate some help & guidance. I AM AMBSOLUTELY FED UP WITH MICROSOFT!

    ubuntu server

    Casper,

    the prompt returns:-
    -bash: startx: command not found.

    The system is:-
    Linux 2.6.15-26-server ... i686 GNU/Linux

As you can imagine at the command prompt I have no idea where I am nor what to do. If I can get a GUI interface running on the server kernel I stand a small chance of getting going...

okk ! you can install Ubuntu GUI from Ubuntu Alternate CD or download from internet.

    Code:
    sudo apt-cdrom add
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
    type 'startx' after installation.
