    resolution problems

hello, i have just installed ubuntu on my laptop, when i go the the Screen Resolution Preferences option the only resolution there for me to select is 1024x768

my laptop is a widescreen one, so i want to know how do i get other resolutions?

here is my xorg.conf file, has the solution anything to do with this?
    Code:
    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

    Resolution.....

I had that same issue once. I just did:

    sudo apt-get install 915resolution
and it automatically changed the resolution to its native 1680 x 1050.

Hopefully this will help you out.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Repos enabled?

Do you have the Universe and Multiverse repositories enabled?

If not, you can go to:

System > Administration > Software Sources

and enable them from there. Then try and install 915resolution again.
