    hi ewg !

    Welcome to the LinuxForums.

check your Monitor's manual for supported VertiRefresh, HorizSync rates and Resolutions. boot up in single user mode and execute this
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
enter correct values when prompted. reboot.

Edit : ooooops ! thanx ozar. corrected it.

    Hi, d_c:

I think your code has a typo in it.

    Did you mean sudo?

Thanks for your responses. I'm new to Linux so I have cautionary question. If i do enter this code, will I still be able to see on the CRT monitor I'm using now?
Also, I'm the only user. Can I log in and enter the code or should i do it from 'root' log in?

    Thanks,

you can't login as root in Ubuntu coz its disabled by default. just log in as normal user and execute that code. it will fix the graphics problem and your CRT Monitor will work fine.

Thanks but it did not work. I had trouble entering Horz and Vert rates. Cursor would not go far enough left to let me change the values. I was able to enter proper card (nVidia 6150) and monitor (Dell 1905FP) and hoped that would be enough, but I guess not. Also, as a newbie, many of the selections in the reconfig were confusing. I guessed at the defaults and chose them. Tried 3 times with no luck.

    Casper,
IT'S WORKING! I was able to get through to System76 support. I had already collected Horz rate, vert rate and resolution info at your suggestion so the fix went quickly. It appears my monitor (Dell 1905FP) needs very specific input to work. Thanks for your help.
