you need to go into system -> administration -> shared folders
    and enable samba and/or NFS
select a folder to share and then create some users that your other pc's will use to connect to your share.
browse the network with your other pcs and your folders should show up. then connect to em using the usernames you set up on the server pc.
check the "server" section of the forums for more detailed how to's

im not the guy to ask on that but i'm sure a swift google would reveal numerous how to's, i'm sure there'll be one on the how to section of this forum, and there should be on the official ubuntu forums too.

You might like to consider this. Either that or Debian. Debian is what Ubuntu is based off and Debian makes a great server (www.debian.org).
    That's my two pence worth.

Try XAMPP (LAMPP) server. It contains Apache, PHP, MySQL and ProFTPD.

    Download: http://www.apachefriends.org/downloa...nux-1.6.tar.gz

    Homepage:
    http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html

This is not a file server though. You can set up a FTP server to access your files from other PCs or the internet.

nfs will only work with linux/bsd etc but if you use samba that will work with mac and windows
