OpenOffice seems to have shafted a Word Document?
Hi there again,
I have been in the process of using OpenOffice instead of Word. I opened up a Word document (with text already in) did some formatting, added some more paragraphs to it and saved as word xp file. Did this a few times and it was ok. However, tried to open the same file again in both Windows and OpenOffice and it seems to have corrupted the file. I get lots of squares and weird shapes, any ideas on how to get my old document back please?
I have tried opening in different formats i.e unicode etc in both Win Office and OpenOffice, but no joy. The document is supposed to be 50 pages, but comes out at at least 12,000!!
Any help really appreciated.

That almost sounds like somewhere along the line it was saved in an Open Document format somewhere along the way. The Windows open doc format and the OO.o open doc format are quite different and quite incompatible, although there is supposed to be a converter from the Windows XML open doc to Oasis.

Try to open the document in a text editor to see if you can recover your text. It sounds like it is FUBAR but it's worth a shot.
Two levels higher than a newb.
(I can search google)
