Is my computer compatible?
Im getting windows vista and a new hard drive, so im going to have an extra 40 gig hard drive to do anything i want with so i thouht "what the hell il install linux on it!"
well after a bit of research im really excited to get this started, only im not sure if its going to work on my computer.
Here are my specs:
Motherboard- ASUS A8N-E (nForce4 ultra northbridge)
Processor- AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Video Card- nVidia GeForce 7800GT
Memory- 1Gb ddr 400 (Corsair XMS brand if that matters)
I dont know it this matters either, but i use a 1680x1050 widescreen monitor with DVI cables, and i use a USB keyboard and mouse
Oh, and an IDE dvd rom optical drive, and a SATA hard drive
Its really the motherboard im worried about, i think the vid card and cpu should be fine.
Thanks for your time!

Should run perfectly fine. Just boot from the LiveCD and see if everything works correctly before installing.

I'm fairly sure I've seen Ubuntu running on all the hardware mentioned.
Two levels higher than a newb.
(I can search google)

Welcome to the forums!
Yep, Linux downloads are free for the most part, so it doesn't cost anything but a little of your time to find out if it'll work.
Have fun with Linux!
