    weird problem with network manager.

    OK
so this happened on both ubuntu 6.10 and linux mint (same thing lol) with a few differences

network manager wont reconize my wireless card in either distro.

but in ubuntu i still get internet just by enabling my wireless card in networking. that only works every now and then again..

but no matter what i try in mint it wont work. even if i uninstall network manager with synaptic it still wont connect. the stupid part is that right after i install mint my internet works fine with the initial bootup. but after my first restart, with or without an update, the internet wont work. network manager wont pick up the wireless card, and i cant get any internet.

the problem is almost a mirror in ubuntu..

    help would be awsome
    thanks

What is the make and model of your wireless card?

I had similar troubles with Ubuntu after using ndiswrapper. The wireless card randomly quiet working on some boots. When I configured my wireless card ndiswrapper called it wlan0, but everything else called it eth1, so I had to alter /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper.

By any chance did you use ndiswrapper to configure your wireless card?

    i did not use ndiswrapper

and this is like the 4th time ive installed ubuntu, its always worked with ubuntu up till now.

only difference is that my installs were as followed
    dapper 32bit
    edgy 64bit
    edgy 64bit

i had to do some wiping thanks to windows problems...

as of now, the internet seems to work on and off, but im about to put the WPA back on. and i wouldnt mind having something like network manager working. for that matter, i wouldnt mind having MINt working.

    thanks

Type /sbin/ifconfig and see if you get an IP address.

You can also ping a website (try ping www.google.com to see if you get a response).
