the suggestion to run FDISK. Won't this wipe your drive????

fdisk is a simple tool to modify the partition on your disk, if you tell it to destroy your disc, it will simple destroy it. If you tell it to remove a partition it will remove that partition
You don't need to run fdisk to modify the partition layout, you can use friendlier programs like GParted, qtparted or cfdisk which have extra feauture like a GUI

and you can use 'fdisk -l' command to 'view' partition structure. fdisk with -l ( small 'L' ) wont destroy anything.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
