I am trying to boot Ubuntu 7.04 from a Flash Drive. I have the partitions all set up properly from following this tutorial.

I get to the bootsplash, select 'USB' and I get this error:
Code:
invalid compressed format (err=1)
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown black (1,0)
I am using syslinux to boot the flash drive. My syslinux.cfg file contains the following:
Code:
    DEFAULT USB
GFXBOOT bootlogo
GFXBOOT-BACKGROUND 0xB6875A
APPEND file=preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=initrd.gz ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw quiet splash --
