Exclamation Installing problem with Nvidia driver!

    Hi!

I'm a new user to linux and have none idea of what to do with my problem. I am running a GeForce 8800 GTS card with an amd 64 cpu, and have downloaded the driver that i need. But there are two that meets my spec. The NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2 and the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9747-pkg2. I have tried to follow installing guides with no luck. The command installing didnt work. I type "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2.run" and it says "Can not open file.. bla bla" Thats my second problem. Dont try to explain with difficult words, because I have no idea of what to do in Linux-OS.

If you have a link to a nice guide to installing nvidia drivers, send it and wish me good luck. If you think you could explain better, please do

The problem is that there is a conflict of directories. The "install" of nvidia places the drivers in one place, and the kernel expects them elsewhere. I am not in front of "my" computer just now, but if you look at another entry in the forum under "zenworks and nvidia" you will find some clues. I have the same problem and I have not yet managed to resolve it. There are three avenues open:
    A. Rename your driver from "nvidia" to "vesa". This sort of works but gives you (or at least me) a terrible GUI.
    B. Recompile the kernel (instructions in the forum entry above) - which I haven't tried yet.
    C. Make symbolic links between the two directories (haven't managed to make it work yet).

In the System>Administration menu is one for "restriced drivers manager" which worked fine for me getting my Nvidia card working oh and it worked for the ATI card on my test box too
