That is a broadcom based card. You need to install a package called bcm43xx-fwcutter. I would recommend plugging into your router directly, run a full system update in Synaptic and then install this package. It will ask you a few questions as you install it, just confirm everything and when it's finished reboot.

Many people find this works but some have trouble or find it easier to got the ndiswrapper route. Personally though I would try the fwcutter approach first. The system update is essential - do that first. Good luck!

Thank you! But, I am not able to plug directly into my router at the moment because of distance so it looks like ill have to wait until I get a long enough cord.

Also, is the system update necessary for the ndiswrapper? If it isnt, maybe I should go that way. Is there a guide to help me through that because Im only a day into using linux so i figure ill get lost pretty easy.

Try this link - either way you are going to have to download some packages and you would be better with a networkconnection. It will only be needed briefly until you are set up, maybe 10-20 minutes maximum.

it says i should get a line like this for it to be compatible:
0X:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Unknown device 4311 (rev 01)

    but im getting:

    02:0b.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)

Okay, you've got a RaLink chip. I have had some trouble with them in the past but I think it's a similar situation with the firmware. I'll post back after a bit of research

I had a look and apparently there are mixed results on this. I want to look into this a bit further for you, but it's quite late here now. I'll post back tomorrow evening (GMT).
