MP3's not playing
I have a CD I burnt with MP3's from originals I own. I wanted to store songs from favourite CD's.
This CD used to play fine when I ran Windows, and when I used to dual boot Windows/Ubuntu. I've tried using Juk, Amerok, and 2 other Multimedia programs to play them but it just re-scans the files to Playlist. When I do a Properties, all seems fine except Duration is 0. The file sizes seem ok. I've tried installing various MP3 codecs and apps but nothing helps. Any suggestions?
Note: I've tried playing them on the CD and copied them to my HD. No dice.
Ok, I checked it out and found a German language reference to sudo apt-get. I understand what it's refering to because I've used the commands before so I can guess the rest.
There's an ugly plugin (gstreamer), and custom mplayer codecs (w32).
Argyle! I think I'll start from scratch.
Perhaps you could try doing an automatic install of all the useful codecs and programs to make ubuntu play your music. My favourite program to use is easyubuntu http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/
Basically, to install the program just copy and paste the following code into a terminal window:
tar -zxf easyubuntu-3.01.tar.gz
sudo python easyubuntu.py
thanks for the advice
I'll keep the code handy.
Last night I did an install of kubuntu and lost most of my configuration including my user names and passwords. So I installed Damn Small Linux for a change of scenery. I'm bound to find something that works. I guess I should have stayed with Ubuntu. Live and learn.
got it all working
I made sure xmms was installed then did this:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Works good so far. I like xmms because it has an EQ.
