Unable to create LV

Hi all,

Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64bit

I selected manual partioning and selecting logical on;

/boot
/root
swap

However after reboot I can't find LV;

$ sudo fdisk -l

I made a mistake not using the Alternative Installer ISO installing Ubuntu and selecting manual partitioning. I couldn't create LVM. I have to reinstall Ubuntu using Alternative Installer.

/data is owned by root. Can I change its owner to satimis(myself) for convenience. So that I can save working documents on it?

It means that you haven't created any partitions on that drive, in other words the drive is bare.

satimis

You can do what ever you like but I would suggest you leave root the owner and use chmod to allow users to write to it.

I have following 2 questions;

1)
Whether
Keep /data owned by root

Give rwx permission to the users of the group
chmod go+rwx -R /data

$ cat /etc/group | grep data
www-data:x:33:

Add users allowed to group

I keep all VMs on "/data/Virtual VMs" directory
How to allow userA userB userC etc running the VM owned by them only?
