I may need IE...

...only because another application I use says it "requires" IE 5.5 or higher. This is a job-specific application that I can't do without; however, it also says it could alternately use Netscape 6.2+.
After reading many posts on this and other forums, it seems IE can be a ***** to install.
Might I have better luck with Netscape?

No dual-boot
Fedora Core 2, wine 20040716

yeah, especialy b/c netscape is can be installed nativly to linux, w/o wine or another emulator, but try mozilla and firefox first, as they are strongly rooted in netscape (one of them is the product of the ex-netscaped development team).

If someone is still reading this,
I need wine for this other app that uses either IE or Netscape - does that imply that they must both be under fake_windows? That is, if I'm running this app from fake-windows, won't it need the browser's components in the same place vs. just using a natively installed browser?

Also, I played with IE under wine - I'll start a different thread on that.
Forgive my Newbie-ness

Hi have you already tried Opera?
Ok if Netscape works fine it is probably the better choice, but if you have problems with a site which is optimized for IE maybe you have better luck with opera. I heard that it can simulate both browsers (Netscape and IE).

If IE is a must for work or a specific job then cough up and buy the Crossover Office plugin thingy from codeweavers. IE works a treat with that. And they donate code to the wine project.

agreed, should opera/mozilla/firfox/netscape fail again has netscape under linux given you actual problems? it will work nativly. Also if possible, try to find out exactly what this program needs out of the browser, is it just styling rules, javascript?
