If wine is installed you use it by typing:

Code:
wine /path/to/executable.exe

Hello, I am a very new newbie to Ubunto. I have tried to install wine but with no success. If I am correct I have some dependencies that need resolving. This is what I have done thus far....

sudo apt-get install wine
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine: Depends: binfmt-support (>= 1.1.2) but it is not installable
Depends: libaudio2 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I have done this within synapics and tells me the same thing. Anyone care to take a stab? Thanks for your help and hope that this doesn't put anyone off. Still learning you know....[smile]

Yeah, the wine user guide (as suggested above by casper) and the wine faq are about the best help you can get for actually using wine. Good luck with getting it running the way you want it.

Wine has been installed correctly in your machine. Navigate to the folder having Windows .exe file and execute that with wine.
Code:
wine <.exe file>
