trouble with driver?
Good morning,
I'm running mandriva 2008 with emerald and compiz-fusion (which shouldn't bother, at least this one guy on youtube plays cod4 with compiz enabled). I want to play cod4 on my mashine. I got it installed properly via wine. when I try to run it now, I get
orCode:[root@localhost Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare]# wine iw3sp.exe err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest Major opcode of failed request: 148 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate) Serial number of failed request: 979 Current serial number in output stream: 980 [root@localhost Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare]#
when I run as root, I get a little post asking whether I want to reset all the options. When I click yes or no, it leads me back to my console with the above error.Code:[paprika27@localhost Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare]$ wine iw3sp.exe err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest Major opcode of failed request: 148 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate) Serial number of failed request: 2053 Current serial number in output stream: 2054 [paprika27@localhost Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare]$
as user, I get my virtual desktop and in it the same post asking whether to reset the options. again, either yes or no leads back to the error.
my xorg.conf looks like this:
I think my card is an ATI X1650 (PCI-E) or something (my actual card, a X1950 Pro just broke down a week ago...).Code:# File generated by XFdrake (rev 234840) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "ServerFlags" #DontZap # disable <Ctrl><Alt><BS> (server abort) AllowMouseOpenFail # allows the server to start up even if the mouse does not work #DontZoom # disable <Ctrl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching) EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer Load "dri" # direct rendering EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard1" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "de" Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Eizo" ModelName "Eizo FlexScan T562" HorizSync 30.0-82.0 VertRefresh 55.0-90.0 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc" BoardName "ATI Radeon X1300 and later" Driver "fglrx" Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1600x1200" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480" "480x360" "320x240" EndSubsection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" Screen "screen1" EndSection

alright... I installed the ati-driver-installer-8-8-x86.x86_64.run from amd. I tryed aticonfig and it said something about atifglextension and quit. so I installed everything that had to do with fgl. Now I can't get compiz to work properly anymore but at least I have catalyst control center (aticonfig) and can use it.
When I try wine iw3sp.exe again, it goes up to the "Call of Duty 4 Console" where it says "Error during initialization: Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data." and only leaves me with an OK button which throws me right out as soon as I click it. farther up in the console I see that cod4 tryed to initialize something related to Direct3D. I'll try installing directX and what else I can find related to that problem.
