I downloaded the gecko.cab, how do I install it manually on ubuntu?
I manually downloaded the gecko.cab from source net, I was told I need not install it that I should just place it in the right folder and the wine application will work well. I placed it in nearly every folder in my wine c- drive, but nothing happens.
I just read that I should use winetricks (after installing cabextract) to manually install the gecko after putting it in winetricks_cache folder.
I am slightly confused.

Don't download it yourself, just use winetricks
It really is easier than you're making it out to be. here's how to install gecko on ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install cabextract
sh winetricks gecko
(And you don't even need to do the first line if you've already installed cabextract.)
Voila, you're done!
