Simple Tool (Geardata) not working

Hi,

I´ve got a little problem... It´s because of this free program svs - Tools - Geardata which i can´t get working with wine. Unfortuneatly there wasn´t any solution on google, just people complainig about it not working.

Would be cool if anyone could help me

Unfortunately Wine struggles to deal with some applications, and there's very little can be done to fix it. If the Wine team is working on it, then it might be working soon, otherwise you might be out of luck.

As as last resort you can always install windows inside a virtual machine like vmware or virtualbox. However, as smolloy suggests, I would rather look for a linux native alternative.

Hmmm.... I don't know a lot about motorcycles, so I'm afraid I can't suggest an alternative program.

One thing I did notice was that it seems to be a free program -- i.e. I was able to download the windows executable without paying. Perhaps they would be willing to send you the source code if you emailed them and asked nicely? You could offer to build a linux executable for them in return, and you'd be a hero amongst Linux gear-heads!

I don't know of any similar program for linux, but I am by no means an expert in motorcycles, so, that doesn't mean there isn't any.

But, if it's all about transmissions, maybe a general physics simulator would do the job. It will require you to design the motorcycle model, engine or whatever yourself, I guess.

I am sorry that I can't suggest one myself, but at least you now have something else to explore.

Another option if you really must run it, you can consider as well installing windows on a virtual machine, like virtualbox or vmware.

Porting it might be or not an option depending on the libraries that the program uses. If it depends on too much windows-only code then you will need to reimplement big chunks of the code. It might be possible to compile it against winelib, though. That would ease the whole porting process if it's doable.
