game not running

Hi,

I downloaded a game as an .exe - file.
I installed it by using wine.
The game startschreen is running and downloading all patches and stuff. When this is ready I Click start game. The start-screen closes and gameguard starts running.
When this is ready it disappears and nothing happens.
The game doens't start.

Where is the problem situated and how can I solve it??

Try switching to a different version of Windows by using the winecfg command in a terminal. Select Applications>Windows Version

OK I have done that. I even tried other versions of windows. I even added the application to the list. But it keeps not running, after gameguard has finished.

Could it be because gamegaurd may not run on the background? or something

Gameguard may be the problem here, after all it's an anti-cheating application. Have you looked at the wine APPDB to see if your game is listed as playable or not, some games just do not work with anything but Genuine MS Windows.

Yes. The game is listed.
So how do we solve the GG problem?

I've runned the game while terminal was open, and found error:
wineserver crashed, please enable coredumps (ulimit -c unlimited) and restart.

So I did this and now it gets stuck on:

Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x06799cd6 at address 0xa99780 (thread 001c), starting debugger...

I think this is only for debugging, which I know very little about.

Can you show me the link on Wine APPDB, for your game, sometimes there are notes left by others who have gotten it to work or not. I'll help you look.
EDIT: you should always try starting the game in terminal mode, so you can see all errors, you can't see errors when you launch the game from the wine menu.

Very cool looking game, I might give it a shot someday.
I don't know if you have seen this or not,
Quote:
Version of wine used was 1.0.1 and set on "Windows 95"
Crackmeup was still used to override Game Guard and is re-initialized every time Shaiya updates. This game did not work prior to the xorg xserver intel video driver update that happened a few weeks ago. If you use an intel processor/video card combined chipset I suggest you get those drivers.

i dont know why, but i dont use an patched game.exe and it runs fine... only one setting ive changed (win95)
So you need something to get past gameguard, which I can't really help you with....uhm, well because that would be illegal and whatnot.
