Steam Issues

I just got steam up and running through wine in Ubuntu 64bit, and I have a couple issues. First, I cant read anything. The text is way to small. Its not a huge issue, but its a little annoying.
Second, and most important, I can't actually play games. I installed Half Life 2, clicked on it, and it went into the regular launching window, then gave me this error:

MountAppFilesystem() falied:
SteamMountAppFilesystem(220,0,0x7a9ba7c4) failed with error 1: The registry is in use by another process, timeout expired.

How can I fix this? Thanks
