I tried to run this application (a very good client for chess servers) with Wine... all seems working ok... except that... I dont' see the pieces at all!!! Please help....

Are you sure thats all the output?
Well anyway you need to obtain gdiplus.dll from a Windows system.
Or from here gdiplus.dll free download - DLL-files.com
Put that file in the same Folder as your ChessGame.
Hope that works =)

Took a quick look at this and it is a port of xboard to windows.
Here is the LINK
You should be able to just install xboard.

My FIX - change owner for files in Babas folder from root to user.

virtualbox is my solution for babashchess under linux
After struggling with various malfunctions of babaschess under wine, I've started using babaschess under windows xp installed in linux's VIRTUALBOX. It works great - just wanted to share the idea with others. Let me know if you find it useful!
