I'm not sure if you can, but why do you want to do this with programs such as gAIM, kopeat and aMSN on linux which can all use the MSN protocall?

Send a message via MSN to andrewdodd13
I would have to agree with the previous post about aMSN, etc. Although the Windows version has more features and niceties, these most likely wouldn't work (such as webcam) under WINE anyway.
Although, I have had MSN Messenger 6.2 working under WINE before, but it was a pretty nasty experience and I just use aMSN now.

HELP - Wine Tools - Windows Intaller and MSN Messenger installer in Fedora 4

Hi Guys,

I am trying to install MSN Messenger so I can use it under Fedora running Wine. The reason why I need MSN Messenger is because at work we run Live Communication Server 2005 which is based on the SIP protocol. So, basically, they want to disable Exchange MSN messenger. Gaim cannot connect to Live Comm Server (I have tried) without any success.

Everytime I attempt to install the Microsoft Windows Installer program using "Wine Tools" I receive the following error:

"The installer has insufficient priviliges to modify this file: c:\Config.Msi\<filename>.rbf" message

Can anyone offer some assistance as to how to get around this problem. I have attempted to give the account all available permissions - however, the error still shows.

Thank you for any assistance,
Edgar

I'm no Wine user but have you tried running the installer as root? You mentioned giving all available permissions to your user; see if root solves that problem instead.

Thank you for all your responses. I finally got it to work. I did it by editing the sudo file using visudo. Then I was able to sudo the command and installer finally installed.

Now, the only issue is that I cannot install msn messnger 5.1. It generates an error. I can install messenger 6 0r 7 but these versions do not allow you to configure TCP connections (allow you to point to a specific server).

If anyone has msn messenger 5.1 configure to run under wine...I would love to know how you did it.

Thank you again
Ed
