An easy way to do it is to download DirectX 9 and then install from wine

I highly doubt you'll be able to get DirectX working in Linux. Is there a game you're trying to get working?

I thought wine was in beta stages though, so wouldn't be getting closer so that DirectX would run under wine
- 10-29-2005 #5My point is, DirectX is made to run on Microsoft Windows. There is no reason to try and install it on Linux. If it's a game the original poster is trying to launch, they would launch it directly with WINE or Cedega.

i think if you search around you can find ways to emulate DX support in linux. found it in a CS:S wine HOWTO
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

Um ... I think one of the things that wine does is emulate DX. Currently wine cannot support DX9, which is why I still cannot run Sims2 on Linux. The instant that happens, no more windows ... yay.
