I'm confused. Can't you just open your Office files in OpenOffice using OpenOffice and open your media files using VLC? Why do you want to get IE involved?

The short answer: I don't know. Hang in there and maybe someone else can help you. Using IE in Linux is hit and miss at best.
Can she not download the attachments first and then open them using their respective programs rather than trying to open them directly through the browser?Registered Linux user #270181

If I'm understanding correctly, someone, perhaps you are sending her attachments that are in the OpenOffice format .odt? And she needs to be able to click on them from her email server while in IE to open and read them? If that is the case, she could open these documents by installing OpenOffice for Windows. Then, when she gets the attachment she can choose OpenOffice to open them from within the email. I don't know about the "vlc" files...

If I understand you right, you need to set windows, what to do with .odt files.
Go to control Panel, Select Tools / Folder Options; Click on the File Types tab; Go to the extension you want to change
